A MYRIAD of mesmerizing voices, breathtaking magic tricks, unbelievable dance moves, and more extraordinary performances by contestants were highlighted in the premiere episode of Asia’s Got Talent Season 2 on Oct. 12.

During an special screening of the premiere the day before at House Manila in Resorts World Manila, Country director and Business head of AXN Networks Philippines, Inc. Armi Malaluan revealed new expectations for this season, “It’s really [about] the variety of acts – the amazing talent from around 15 countries that will be represented; the fact that we have a new judge, Jay Park. It will be more youthful, [and] more fun. David [Foster] and Anggun as still there. So, when it comes to the skills of the judges, it’s all there. [And] the hosts are funny. They’re witty. They have a good sense of humor. [And] they’re really very good with the audience.”

The show – Filipino shadow play group El Gamma Penumbra won in the first season – comes back with its new season hosted by newcomers Alan Wong and Justin Bratton. It will feature 165 acts from 15 Asian countries. Mr. Foster – a 16-time Grammy Award winner and music producer – and international singer Anggun return as judges. Joining them is multi-platinum artist Jay Park. This season, contestants have the opportunity to earn a fourth golden buzzer which will be given by the two hosts.

The show’s worldwide premiere aired on Oct. 12.

Contestants entered the competition through a variety of ways. “In the Philippines, we had an on-ground audition last May… [we] also have online auditions that’s being done regionally. Contestants all over Asia can send their two-minute performance video,” Ms. Malaluan said.

The first episode showcased 23 acts including The Sisters, a classical singing duo from Singapore, magician Andrew Lee, and aerial pole dancer Jay Tjung, both from Indonesia, to name a few. Three acts from the Philippines – DMX Convaleños, an all-male break dancing group; D’Intensity Breakers, an acrobat and stunts act; and Mercifulete Viola, a 68-year-old rapper – all got through the first round. The episode concluded with an electrifying performance by the Adem Dance Crew which earned the golden buzzer approval from Mr. Park.

“You will be really amazed and excited in terms of the variety from magic to dance, to stunts, to singing, to comic acts. It’s definitely will be more exciting and bigger this year,” Ms. Malaluan said.
