Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge
(aka Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales)
IN THE latest film in the series, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when ghost pirates led by his old nemesis Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devils Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea including him. Directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning, the film also stars Orlando Bloom, Brenton Thwaites, and Geoffrey Rush. Review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a measly score of 35%. Its Critics Consensus says that the film “proves that neither a change in directors nor an undead Javier Bardem is enough to drain this sinking franchise’s murky bilge.”

AT TIME of interplanetary colonization, an unlikely pair race against an impending global crisis and are confronted by the monsters that live inside us all. Main Cast Written and directed by Shane Abbess, it stars Daniel MacPherson, Isabel Lucas, Kellan Lutz, and Rachel Griffiths. “The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One is an eye-opener for what’s possible in Australian cinema when you have a maverick with filmmaking chops driving it,” writes Dov Kornits of FILMINK (Australia).

A YOUNG woman is coping with an unwanted pregnancy returns to her hometown and unknowingly moves into a haunted house. Directed by Aaron Keeling, it stars Emily Goss, Cathy Barnett, and Taylor Bottles. “Pine Street is nicely atmospheric without succumbing to the usual cliches of spooky production design or false gotcha scares,” writes Variety’s Dennis Harvey.

Spark: A Space Tail
AN ANIMATED comedy about a teenage monkey called Spark and his friends Chunk and Vix who are on a mission to regain Planet Bana and keep the evil Zhong from conquering the universe. Directed by Aaron Woodley, it features the voices of Jace Norman, Jessica Biel, Susan Sarandon, Patrick Stewart, and Hilary Swank. As of press time, review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes has given it a score of 0%, with all 12 of the reviews calling the film “rotten.” “Second-rate monkey business that never achieves liftoff,” says Variety’s Joe Leydon.
