THE UNDERPASS along N. Bacalso Avenue has been opened to private vehicles over the weekend until May 13 to accommodate the expected volume of traffic in the south district of Cebu City for the midterm elections. Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) operations chief Francisco Ouano said the tunnel is now passable to light vehicles with the concreting of the center lane completed. “It is passable. Street lights are up and the construction is almost done,” Mr. Ouano said. The CCTO will deploy at least six traffic enforcers to man the area. Public utility jeepneys (PUJs) will still utilize the northbound and southbound side roads of the underpass, or access other diversion routes such as Ganciang St., Caimito St., F.Llamas St., Tagunol St. and other nearby roads. All buses, mini buses and delivery trucks will continue using the Cebu South Coastal Road. The P638-million underpass project is expected to be completed this month. — The Freeman
