COREnergy to power Mabuhay Towers in Cebu

COREnergy, Inc., the retail electricity arm of Vivant Corp., has been tapped to power and manage the energy consumption of real estate, hospitality and manufacturing company The BE Group of Companies’ Mabuhay Towers in Cebu.
“COREnergy has the technical capacity in retail electricity supply and the same level of commitment to Cebu’s progress. That gives us confidence that this partnership will help us manage energy more strategically while supporting our developments in the long-term,” BE Group President and Chief Executive Officer Grand T. Benedicto said in a media release on Wednesday.
The company’s business towers in Cebu Business Park and Cebu IT Park have heightened demand for reliable, cost-efficient power to sustain the operations of enterprise locators, the company said.
The partnership follows the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) decision to lower the contestability threshold to 100 kilowatts (kW) by June, which expands the access to retail electricity supply for more commercial establishments.
The ERC has lowered the minimum threshold for participation in the retail market from 500 kW to 100 kW to increase customer participation and potentially support competition.
Electricity retailing allows licensed suppliers to sell electricity directly to eligible consumers, as stipulated under the Electric Power Industry Reform Act.
The law mandates the implementation of retail competition and open access, which allows consumers to choose their electricity supplier.
By shifting to COREnergy through retail competition, Mabuhay Towers will have a structured energy strategy that enhances cost predictability, offers greater customizability, and maximizes performance, it said.
“Businesses are no longer treating power as a fixed monthly expense. With the Power of Choice, they can structure how energy supports their operations, whether that’s managing costs, improving performance, or planning for scale,” said COREnergy Senior Assistant Vice-President and Head of Sales Jose Marko Anton G.
