A MAGNITUDE 5 earthquake struck parts of the Bicol region on Saturday followed by smaller aftershocks, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

There were no reported damages, according to the Phivolcs report.

The tremor happened at 2:04 a.m., its epicenter traced 37 kilometers northeast of Panganiban, Catanduanes.

Another 3.4 magnitude aftershock occurred at 8:24 a.m., with its epicenter 14 kilometers southeast of the same area.

The quake was felt at Intensity IV, classified as moderately strong, in Panganiban, Bagamanoc, Caramoran and Viga in Catanduanes province, while intensity III was recorded at Bato, also in Catanduanes. Intensity II was felt in Legazpi City in Albay province and in Sagñay, Camarines Sur.

Meanwhile, a 4.4 magnitude quake occurred 41 kilometers southeast of Cagwait, Surigao Del Sur at 1:57 p.m. on Saturday, according to the agency. — Marc Wyxzel C. Dela Paz
