NBI nabs suspect in murder of Zamboanga judge
THE NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested one of the suspects in the killing of Judge Reymar L. Lacaya in May this year. In a statement, NBI identified the suspect as Juliver S. Cabating, who was nabbed in Mati, Davao Oriental. Mr. Cabating was a job order personnel of the Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 28, where the victim was the presiding judge. Mr. Cabating was charged for the crime along with a certain “Jerry” and “Ramil.” Mr. Lacaya was shot inside the court premises at around 2:45 p.m. of May 9. Lawyer Antonio S. Pagatpat, deputy director for regional operations service, said in the statement that witnesses’ accounts and CCTV footage point to the three as possibly behind the murder. According to the Supreme Court, Mr. Lacaya is the 30th judge killed in service since 1999. — Vann Marlo M. Villegas
