Inayawan landfill rehab still awaiting council nod
QUESTIONS OVER the Safe Closure and Rehabilitation Plan (SCRP) for the Inayawan Sanitary Landfill in Cebu City remain pending as the current city council is about to end its term this month. Several councilors have asked Full Advantage Phils. International Inc. (FAPII) to revise and submit the final SCRP before they step down, but approval is uncertain during this week’s last council session. Among the questions being raised are the height by which the garbage mound would be cut and fencing details. FAPII has made several recommendations on what the city can do with the rehabilitated landfill: set up of a waste-to-energy facility; develop an industrial or economic zone; recreational eco-park; or renewable energy center. — The Freeman
