Iligan solon proposes 6-month martial law extension
A RESOLUTION proposing another six-month extension of martial law in Mindanao in view of the midterm elections in May 2019 has been filed at the House of Representatives. House Resolution 2302, introduced by Iligan City Rep. Frederick W. Siao, urged President Rodrigo R. Duterte to extend martial law from Jan. to June 2019 after the Commission on Elections identified several areas as election hotspots. “It is urgently imperative that government authority must ensure peace, orderly, and honest May 2019 elections in Mindanao,” Mr. Siao said in the resolution. The Solon also noted that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippines National Police (PNP) have reported the presence of ISIS bomb experts in some areas of Mindanao. — Charmaine A.
