POLICE DIRECTOR Gen. Oscar D. Albayalde has committed to recruit and deploy an additional 500 cops for Davao City following a meeting last week with Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio. In a statement issued Tuesday, Ms. Carpio said she discussed with Mr. Albayalde the city’s need for more police personnel given the growing population due to economic migration and increased tourist arrivals. “One of the concerns that I discussed with General Albayalde is the need of the city to expand its police personnel, especially that more people visited the city and that our population is growing as well,” she said. In 2017, the number of visitors reached two million up from 1.7 million the previous year, boosted by several conventions. The mayor said the police director also promised to approve within the year the local government’s proposal to upgrade the Davao City Police Office into a district office, which would pave the way for the setting up of at least two more police stations.
