Local gov’t stresses that no fees will be collected for barangay certifications as Marawi residents begin returning home; curfew, other regulations put in place
DISPLACED RESIDENTS of Marawi City who want to return home in areas declared as safe zones by authorities but do not have an identification card (ID) can do so by securing a certification from their respective barangay local government units (BLGU). The BLGUs have a master list of residents, which will be used as basis. The provincial government of Lanao del Sur and the Marawi City government have issued a statement stressing that “No fees are to be charged for the certifications.” The BLGUs have been ordered to assign a representative at the checkpoint to facilitate a smooth entry of the returning residents.
REGULATIONS
At the same time, the local governments also said that “some regulations and rules have to be implemented once the communities are occupied by the returnees.” These include the use of special passes for travels, no wearing of helmets for those on motorcycles, and a 30-kilometer per hour speed limit for vehicles. The three city bridges that lead to the main battle area, referred to as “Ground Zero,” remain closed to civilians and a curfew is in place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. — Albert F. Arcilla
