Another ex-soldier joins top ranks of NIA
ANOTHER FORMER soldier was sworn in at the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), replacing a government career executive who filed an irrevocable resignation earlier this month.
Romeo G. Gan, ex-commander of the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division of the Philippine Armory, took oath on Sept. 18 before Cabinet Secretary Leoncio B. Evasco to officially assume office as the new NIA Deputy Administrator for Administrative and Finance.
President Rodrigo R. Duterte appointed Mr. Gan to replace Estrella E. Icasiano. Ms. Icasiano briefly served as NIA officer-in-charge administrator following the resignation of Peter Tiu Laviña, the President’s first appointee to head the agency.
Mr. Gan will join his comrades in the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1983, namely: former general Ricard R. Visaya, now NIA administrator, and former general Abraham B. Bagasin, senior deputy administrator.
Mr. Gan also previously served as commander of the Civil Relations Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and assistant division commander based in Maguindanao. — Janina C. Lim
