FOR PEOPLE who grew up in the 1990s, Pokemon was a fixture in their lives. Our generation played with the cards and video games, and watched the cartoons. (My brother and I played Pokemon Red and Blue in Japanese using our Gameboy Color.) This all involved finding, training, and pitting “pocket monsters” against each other.

INSPIRED by true events, an inescapable tsunami engulfs a seemingly idyllic Norwegian tourist destination in The Wave now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD from Magnolia Home Entertainment. Directed by Roar Uthaug (the upcoming Tomb Raider), the effects-laden thriller depicts events that every Norwegian fears may one day happen: the country’s largest unstable mountainside plummets tons of rock and earth into the fjord below. Its path of destruction causes a nearly 300-foot high wave that gives the people of the small town of Geiranger mere minutes to leave their homes and reach higher ground.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines presents Myth, a photo exhibition by artists Jippy Pascua and Dennese Victoria, which is on view until Aug. 21 at the Pasilyo Victorio Edades. An installation of photographs, Myth questions how and why the artists have accumulated, kept, and eventually selected the images for the exhibit. On view Tuesdays to Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
