COUTURIER-heritage conservationist Beatriz “Patis” Pamintuan Tesoro will be holding the first ever collaborative encounter between the Tinggians of Namarabar, Peñarrubia, Abra and the embroiderers of Lumban, Laguna, in a two whole-day Embroidery Exchange on Feb. 20 and 21, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Patis Tito Garden Cafe in Barangay Putol San Pablo, Laguna. THE DEAR LUIS! a fund-raising show is ongoing at the blanc gallery. Proceeds of this show will go to writer Luis Katigbak and his road to recovery from complications for diabetes. On sale will be works by 45 artists including Annie Cabigting, Constantino Zicarelli, Dina Gadia, Kidlat de Guia, Lena Cobangbang, Mariano Ching, MM Yu, Poklong Anading, Ringo Bunoan, Soler Santos, Yason Banal, and Zean Cabangis. As resident editor and writer at various publications, among them The Philippine Star, Pulp and Esquire Philippines, Katigbak’s essays, columns, features and reviews have shaped the taste and style of multitudes of readers, musicians and artists. Katigbak’s first collection of short stories, Happy Endings (University of the Philippines Press), has seen multiple printings and continues to enthrall readers 15 years after its first publication. His long-awaited second collection, Dear Distance (Anvil), sees publication this month. The gallery is located at 145 Katipunan Avenue, St. Ignatius Village, Quezon City.

GALLERIA DUEMILA and the Yuchengco Museum present Roberto M. A. Robles’ Here Is How The Transition Into The Mambo Beat Looks Like 2016, until Feb. 27 at the museum lobby. Robles’s stark white sculptures pay homage to artists and themes that have claimed the artist’s attention for years. ART ELEMENTS Asian Gallery at the SM Aura Premier Mall, Bonifacio Global City presents Auspicious Art by Feng Shui artist Lizanne Uychaco. Ms. Uychaco is the only Feng Shui artist in the country and her paintings are meant to elicit harmony and bring about happiness, prosperity, longevity, wealth, and success. Her mixed media paintings carry a consistent motif of an ancient coin she has worn since age five.
THE Ateneo Art Gallery presents Octoroon, an exhibit of works by Peta Clancy, Helen Pynor, Bindi Cole Chocka and Steven Rhall. Michael Brenan and Chocka curated this travelling exhibition from A LUMA/La Trobe University Museum of Art. The exhibit — which features three video and photographic installations dealing with issues of identity and representation from the indigenous perspective — will be on view until March 26. The exhibit will be held at the Ateneo Art Gallery, Rizal Library Special Collections Building, Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan Ave., QC.
THE VARGAS MUSEUM at UP Diliman in Quezon City starts the new year with the exhibition BenCab: Another Scale, part of the year-long celebration of National Artist Benedicto “BenCab” Cabrera’s 50 years as an artist.
THE METROPOLITAN Museum of Manila takes its turn in celebrating the 50 creative years of National Artist BenCab (Benedicto Cabrera) with a retrospective exhibition that runs until Feb. 27. THE MANILA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA is quite busy this month before even starting the 2016-2017 Season. Selected orchestra members will also be performing at the Bamboo Organ Festival on Feb. 19 at the St. Joseph Parish Church in Las Piñas. The entire festival is from Feb. 18 to 24. Repertory Philippines presents Almost Maine, a series of vignettes all set in the fictional town of Almost, Maine. On a cold, wintry night with the northern lights illuminating the dark sky, the residents fall in and out of love in unusual ways. Written by John Cariani, the play has 19 complex characters played by a cast of four: Reb Atadero (The Graduate, The Horse And His Boy), Caisa Borromeo (The Secret Garden, Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady), Natalie Everett (The Secret Garden, The Game’s Afoot) and Jamie Wilson (Run For Your Wife, The Bridges of Madison County). PETA’s 3 Stars and a Sun, presents a dystopian future set to the music of the late Francis Magalona. After one particular deadly storm, the government decides to construct the Stormdome, a shelter that blocks out the sky and has millions of security cameras. With The Stormdome, peace and security is assured, but should we celebrate the loss of freedom? Should we really become a society driven by paranoia and fear? The musical will feature 20 songs by Mr. Magalona, including his hits and some unfamiliar ones, including surprises like a song with a kundiman structure infused with rock. The cast includes Paolo Valenciano, Gio Gahol, Nicco Manalo, Gold Villar, Che Ramos-Cosio, Carla Guevara-Laforteza, Bodjie Pascua, Raffy Tejada, and Giannina Ocampo.
