PRESIDENT Rodrigo R. Duterte has tasked the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), chaired by retired Gen. Eduardo D. del Rosario, to manage the construction of housing units under the rehabilitation program for war-torn Marawi City. Mr. Del Rosario will be reporting directly to Defense Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana, who has been designated earlier as overall head of Task Force Bangon Marawi. “So from the table of the Defense secretary, it goes to one person, COO (chief operating officer) and that is General Ed del Rosario. Si Del Rosario ang tawagin niya (is the one he should call) if he needs something from DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways),” Mr. Duterte said in a press conference in Davao City late Tuesday after his return from an official trip to Japan. Mr. Duterte also said that he prefers to have the rehabilitation under one man rather than various committees as recommended by some Cabinet members. “It should be Defense Secretary Lorenzana. Marami naman ‘yan siyang mga (He has several) undersecretaries. They can work out something for Marawi. Then it goes to one single person.” — Rosemarie A. Zamora
