The online sale will go on despite the pandemic
THIS year is vastly different from the last but one thing remains true: come September (the start of the “ber” months) Filipinos, like clockwork, will start to prepare for Christmas. In anticipation of the holidays, e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada are holding huge sales featuring major brands until Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Considered their signature shopping event, Shopee’s 9.9 Super Shopping Day, which will run until Sept. 9, will have free shipping vouchers, flash sales, a Super Games day on Sept. 7 with a coin pool worth P1 million, and a Super Vouchers Day on Sept, 8 with “over P9,900 worth of vouchers to be given away,” according to a release.
Aside from sales from brands such as Unilever, Maybelline, Havaianas, and Procter and Gamble, Shopee will also be holding a TV special on Sept. 9, 8:30 p.m., on GMA News TV. The TV special will feature performances by Lani Misalucha, Christian Bautista, Gabbi Garcia, and Rhian Ramos, among many others. The show will also be giving away up to P4.7 million worth of prizes including a house and lot from Lumina Homes.
This year’s Shopee 9.9 Super Shopping Day also heralded the return of Jose Mari Chan as an endorser. Jose Mari Chan is the man behind the Filipino Christmas classic, “Christmas in Our Hearts.” The song, released in 1990, is considered part of Filipino Christmas tradition as once it plays on the radio and in the malls, even at the tail-end of August, it means Christmas has arrived in the Philippines. In recent years, memes featuring the singer have become teasers about the arrival of the holiday season.
“Jose Mari Chan has remained a beloved icon and face of the Philippines’ Christmas holiday throughout the years, and is a well-loved figure who brings out togetherness amongst the Filipino community,” Martin Yu, associate director at Shopee Philippines, said in a statement.
Shopee, with Mr. Chan, is also holding a Shopee 9.9 Super Dance Challenge where participants will have to recreate Mr. Chan’s Shopee commercial and submit the video for a chance to win P99,000. Users can upload their submissions to shopee.ph/shopee99superdancechallenge.
LAZADA
Lazada will also be holding its own 9.9 sale featuring brands from its LazMall tab, with free shipping for those shopping on Sept. 9.
Brands joining the sale include Innisfree, Parfois, Cath Kidston, Sony, Instax, and LG.
Several bank cards — BDO, UnionBank Lazada Credit Card, and Citibank, to name a few — will also be giving away discounts when used to purchase items during the sale period.
On Sept. 8, 9 p.m., Lazada will be holding a sale countdown concert to be hosted by Robi Domingo and Bianca Gonzales. Vouchers will be given away during the concert, and a series of romantic-comedy short films called LazSerye which will be released every hour during the show. The short films will feature Lou Yanong, Andre Brouillette, Yamyam Gucong, and Fumiya Sankai. The concert will have performances by Tony Labrusca, Darren Espanto, Kim Chiu, and Kathryn Bernardo.
