ONLINE JOB recruitment site Monster.com said that half of Filipino professionals cite as a reason for searching for new jobs the struggle in juggling their careers with their obligations as parents.

The Monster findings come from its #SheMakesItWork survey for working parents conducted in the run-up to Mother’s Day. The survey included 899 Filipino participants.

In the study, Monster reported that many Filipino men and women face the challenges of parenthood despite having more flexible work arrangements, with time and pay as some of the issues they face.

“50% still feel challenged in terms of striking an appropriate work-life balance, while 40% also feel inadequately compensated,” Monster said.

Monster added that as a result of these issues, “an alarming number of both men (62%) and women (71%) are planning to look for a new job within the next 12 months.”

The study also noted the struggles of first-time parents in which over half for both mothers (56%) and fathers (53%) experience pressure to provide. Some 54% of men say they worry more about providing appropriate support for their families compared to 46% of women. Some 60% of working moms say that going to work is difficult because they leave their children behind. About 74% of men feel that women professionals quit because they want to spend more time with the family.

Monster.com-APAC & Gulf CEO Abhijeet Mukherjee said that this should alarm employers and emphasized the need to motivate employees by accommodating the needs of these professionals.

“In a market that has typically been financially motivated, young parents are now seeking out non-monetary benefits such as flexible working arrangements and more supportive environments with strong parental leave policies, so both partners can balance work and home life,” he said in a statement. — Gillian M.
