MITSUBISHI MOTORS Philippines Corporation (MMPC) said it invested P360 million for a container yard and material handling operations (MHO) warehouse in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
In a statement, MMPC said the warehouse and container yard, which has been in use since October, expanded its Santa Rosa property to 23 hectares from the previous 21 hectares. The building area also increased to 120,500 square meters (sq.m.) from 83,000 sq.m.
MMPC had previously leased three storage facilities outside its plant to store completely knocked down units and locally manufactured pieces.
“The reduction in storage, transportation, and MHO cost will further improve the operational efficiency and quality of our products,” MMPC First Vice-President for Manufacturing Division Arnaldo T. Janolo was quoted as saying in a statement.
MMPC is one of two car companies that qualified under the government’s Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) program.
MMPC has invested P4.3 billion for the CARS program, where it pledged to locally produce Mirage models.
The CARS program grants two kinds of fiscal support to the selected car companies who will locally build or assemble units to revive the local vehicle manufacturing industry and in the future, develop an automotive hub in the Philippines.
In a joint report by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. and Truck Manufacturers Association on Friday, MMPC ranked second in the October total vehicle sales, with 59,751 units sold year to date. — Anna Gabriela A. Mogato
