HBO HAS given a 10-episode, straight-to-series order to House of the Dragon, a Game of Thrones prequel co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal. MANUEL SILOS’ Biyaya ng Lupa (Blessings of the Land, 1959) is one of those films where one is hard-pressed to say why or how it’s great. It’s so understated, so modestly poised, so gracefully proportioned it takes a while — perhaps some time after a screening — before the finer qualities sink in deep enough to plink at the outer fringes of awareness.
