PPO ‘Instruments Petting Zoo’ with bassoonists
THE Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) continues with its live online program, “Instrument Petting Zoo,” with featured bassoon players Adolfo Mendoza and Frenvee Andra on Sunday, July 26, at 4 p.m., via the PPO Facebook page. For the instrument petting zoo session, Mendoza and Andra will talk about the bassoon and demonstrate how it is played. They will also perform classical pieces suited for the bassoon. A project of the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the PPO, the instrument petting zoo aims to promote appreciation for the musical instruments of the orchestra and its music among children and families. It is held every Sunday at 4 p.m., and runs for several months.
Chieri and Cherry on Japan Film Week
THE Japan Foundation Manila is holding an offshoot of the Eiga Sai Japanese Film Festival, Japan Film Week, a week of screenings of digital films featuring Japanese movies. The screenings will run until July 27. On July 24, Japan Film Week will be premiering Chieri and Cherry (2015) by Makoto Nakamura, an animated film about a girl navigating through the grief of losing her father by going on an adventure with a stuffed animal. On July 25, to be screened is The Takatsu River (2020) by Yoshinori Nishikori, a film about the lives of people living on the river basin of the Takatsu River and how they keep traditions alive despite their decreasing population. ARTIST PLAYGROUND is presenting 4 Your Eyes Online: Four Quick Stories About Lust and Love, a play written and directed by Paul Jake Paule. Salcedo Auctions’ Bags for A Cause

Instituto Cervantes presents La Buena Estrella
NEXT IN its ongoing “Classics With You” film program, the Instituto Cervantes de Manila will be showing Ricardo Franco’s 1997 film La Buena Estrella. Ballet Philippines streams Gabriel Barredo’s Opera
THE 2016 production of Gabriel Barredo’s Opera, which Ballet Philippines President Kathleen L. Liechtenstein called “one of our finest productions,” is currently viewable online via the new Ballet Philippines website (ballet.ph). The ballet — which is based on Mr. Barredo’s exhibit, Opera, which took its inspiration from a Victorian operating theater (“opera” here means “to operate”) — focuses on the beauty and terrifying aspects of the human body as it tells the story of a pair of twins and their mother fighting against an entity called The Watcher.
Tirada printmaking exhibit catalog now online
THE EXHIBIT catalog of Tirada: 50 Years of Philippine Printmaking 1968-2018, featuring essays by guest curator Patrick Flores and printmakers Virgilio Aviado, Imelda Cajipe-Endaya and Jose Santos Ardivilla, is now available for digital download in the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) website. The exhibit, which was held at the CCP from May 19 to July 15, celebrated five decades of the Association of Pinoyprintmakers, formerly known as the Philippine Association of Printmakers or PAP. New show at BenCab Museum
JOHN Frank Sabado’s solo show, Distinction, which is up at BenCab Museum’s Gallery Indigo until Aug. 2, can be viewed online at the museum’s exhibit Facebook page(https://web.facebook.com/pg/bencabmuseum/photos/?tab=album&album_id=3113556848702650).
