1335Mabini opens two exhibits on July 2. Perimeter Offense, a solo show by Joseph Tecson, explores painting as a means to expose or criticize social boundaries within predefined societal contexts. Urban Stasis by Jose Luis Singson emphasizes a connection between documentation and translation based on how existing structures convey a sense of history and temporal boundaries. Both run until July 29.

Kalsada, Max Balatbat’s mixed media works, opens on July 2 at the BenCab Museum and runs until Aug. 14. Alongside this, the Philippine Life, an exhibit of hand-colored engravings from the London Illustrated News of 1857, is on view at the Print Gallery. BenCab Museum is located at Km. 6 Asin Road, Tuba, Metro Baguio.

MO_Space opens Binary by Luis Antonio Santos on July 2. Santos plays with diametrically opposed concepts in Binary, delving into the relationships between painting and print; painting and photography; finite and infinite. It runs until July 31.

Marc Gaba’s Property of Space is on view at the Artery Art Space until July 9. The artist’s multimedia exhibit dramatizes the tensions that create space in formation of private property. Mr. Gaba, a Palanca award-winning poet, has presented 12 solo shows since 2008. Artery Art Space is located at 102 P. Tuazon Blvd., Cubao, Quezon City.

Vinyl On Vinyl has opened three new exhibitions: Darrel Ballesteros’ second solo exhibit, You Will Destroy This Planet; Teo Esguerra’s Beach Houses, and Barong Tagalog’s Buhay Na Walang Hanggan which features artists Tano Panaligan, Ren Quinio, Miki Miki Mulingtapang, Mhelen Hassim, CURSE/GIFT, Regen Mulingtapang, Migs Deniola, Darwin Pena, QWARK, Dionisio Sandoval, Jr. The exhibits are on view at 2135 Warehouse II, Chino Roces Ave. Makati City.

Blanc Art Space is running Buen Calubayan’s Hidalgo: Towards A History from Within, a project to take a closer look at Filipino renowned artist Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo and his perceived locations in a given “world.” The exhibit is on view until July 2.

UP Vargas Museum presents J Pacena II’s solo exhibit titled The Banquet: Subject Matter I of III at the 1F Galleries of the Museum. The exhibit focuses on three themes: The Current Art System and the Philippine Art Market, The Catalogue of Artists from year 2000-2015, and the Study of Space, Materials and Technique. The exhibit runs until July 2.

Alien Life at Post Gallery Cubao X features works by 15-year-old Miles Fabonan, his father Fabo, his mother Gerrie, and his sister Ayi. It runs until July 16 at POST Gallery, Cubao Expo, Araneta Center, Quezon City.

Silverlens Galleries is currently showing three exhibitions: Eric Zamuco’s Visible Currents, an experiential exhibit of reconstructed forms; Chati Coronel’s latest solo exhibit, The Way In/The Way Out, using seven colors, one for each painting, as an energy center; and, Johan Espiritu’s Cy Prés. They run until July 2 at Silverlens, 2/F YMC Bldg. 2, 2320 Don Chino Roces Ave. Ext., Makati City.

Kulay-Diwa presents No Reason to Be Bored, an exhibition of recent works by Franz Marion “Nano” Vocalan. The exhibit runs until July 7. The gallery is located at 25 Lopez Ave., Lopez Village, Sucat, Parañaque City.

The Metropolitan Museum of Manila showcases Raymundo “Ray” Albano’s short-lived yet very prolific and influential career in A Time to Unlearn, at the Sphere section of MET’s Philippine Contemporary Art: To Scale the Past and the Possible. The Metropolitan Museum is located at the Bangko Sentral Compound, Roxas Blvd., Malate, Manila.

The first Retrospective Exhibition of Antonio Austria is on view until July 10 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Bulwagang Juan Luna (Main Gallery) and Pasilyo Guillermo Tolentino (3F Hallway Gallery). The exhibit features Austria’s paintings of “different aspects, moods, scenarios, social and religious values of the urban Filipino” as well as drawings and memorabilia telling of Austria’s progress as an artist in the 1950s.

The touring exhibition Badong: Salvador Bernal Designs the Stage, organized by the Cultural Center of the Philippines, is on view at the Ateneo Art Gallery until July 2. The exhibit honors the late National Artist for Theater Design Salvador “Badong” F. Bernal, featuring his design projects in ballet, opera, theater, and film from the 1970s to 2011. The Ateneo Art Gallery is in the Old Rizal Library Special Collections Bldg., Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan Ave., Loyola Heights, Quezon City.

FILM
Instituto Cervantes, the Embassy of Spain, and WTA Architecture Studio present “Great Books on the Screen,” a series of Spanish novels shown in their film adaptations. Four contemporary Spanish stories will be screened at The Book Stop, Plaza Roma, Intramuros, from July 1 to 3. The series will start with multi-awarded movie La Colmena, from the Spanish Nobel Prize recipient Camilo Jose Cela and directed by Mario Camus in 1982, on July 2, 6 p.m. Period drama El Abuelo, directed by Academy-award winner José Luis Garci and based on a play written by Spain’s Benito Pérez Galdós, comes next on July 3, at 6 p.m. Entrance is free. PERFORMANCES
UP Playwrights’ Theatre returns after a three-year hiatus with Linda Faigao-Hall’s The Female Heart, which runs July 1 to 10, at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater, University of the Philippines, Diliman. The story set in the 1980s delves on the struggles of Adelfa and her brother Anghel, who want to escape the poverty-stricken Smokey Mountain for a better life. Catch Si Medea: Madiya and Maida by the Langgam Performance Troupe at The Open Space Manila on July 2 and 3. Tickets for both plays, Madiya and Maida, are priced at P400, but per-show tickets are P250 each. Rak of Aegis, the legendary rock musical by Philippine Educational Theater Association, is now on its fifth run with new members in the cast: Miss Saigon alumnae Tanya Manalang, The Voice finalist Alisah Bonaobra, Jon Santos, and Carla Guevarra-Laforteza, among others. EVENTS
The Korean Cultural Center holds the “2016 Global Taste of Korea” on July 2 at the Lyceum of the Philippines University Culinary Institute. There will be free food and giveaways, plus cooking demonstration and competition. Event starts at 9 a.m.

Metropolitan Museum’s Japanese Design Today 100 will be holding Curator’s Talk with Hiroshi Kashiwagi on July 2, 10 a.m. The curator will discuss the Japanese aesthetic, as he tackles contemporary design in relation to Japanese culture.
