What was once taught as statistical modeling and decision support systems now fall under the evolving umbrella of artificial intelligence (AI).

Fortunato T. de la Peña, former secretary of the Department of Science and Technology and an academician at the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), reflects on the shift from traditional to generative AI.

NAST, he further said, is updating its foresight document called PAGTANAW 2050 (LOOKING AHEAD 20250) to reflect recent developments in technology.

PAGTANAW 2050 is a collection of science and technology trends, national and global goals, and emerging innovations that support the country’s development.

“The more substantive part is section 4, which discusses 12 operational areas,” Mr. de la Peña told BusinessWorld. “This is where AI comes into the picture…as AI transcends all the different sectors.”

“The updating will take probably another year, because this will be consultative,” he added.
