THE Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) with the University of the Philippines (UP) and its Alumni Association (UPAA), formally launched the UP Job Placement Office (JPO) to enhance employment opportunities for students and graduates of the country’s top state university.

The UP-JPO will offer students and alumni free employment assistance, human resource development services, access to labor market information and other essential tools to help them explore and secure better career opportunities, according to DoLE.

Its objectives include improving labor market efficiency by boosting alumni employability, addressing job mismatches and bridging the gaps between education and workforce readiness, particularly for roles requiring advanced qualifications.

Its key functions are (1) Job Assistance (placement, search, internships); (2) Moving Forward (alumni engagement, employment tracking); (3) Career Muna (advising, counseling, development); and (4) Partners and Linkages (employer collaboration, networking).

Labor Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma assured the availability of “timely and reliable labor market information and services at the middle to the higher segments of the labor market.”

It followed the Memorandum of Understanding signed on Dec. 11, 2023, between DoLE and UP through Mr. Laguesma, UP Alumni Association President Robert Lester F. Aranton and UP President Angelo A. Jimenez. — Chloe Mari A. Hufana
