Police hunt for Acierto, others in multi-billion drug case
THE PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) is now conducting manhunt operations against dismissed police officer Eduardo Acierto and seven others indicted for their alleged involvement in the smuggling of billions worth of the illegal drug shabu that were kept inside magnetic lifters and slipped past the Bureau of Customs. “Yes, yesterday we were able to secure copies of warrants of arrest…and we are now conducting manhunt operations,” said PNP chief General Oscar D. Albayalde in a chance interview with reporters on Thursday. Mr. Acierto, former Customs intelligence officer Jimmy S. Guban, and six others were charged with violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, following criminal complaints filed by the National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency last year. “We have tracker teams created from the CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group),” said Mr. Albayalde. — Vince Angelo C.
