Cebu City proposes P8.1-B budget for 2019, up P1B from 2018
CEBU CITY’s executive department has proposed an P8.1 billion budget for 2019, about a billion higher than this year allocation. Budget Officer Marietta L. Gumia told reporters that the increase is mainly for the purchase of garbage trucks and buses to serve students from the city’s mountain villages. “Same in terms of operations this year, recurring operations. The difference is garbage collection program, instead of renting (trucks) for the whole year, acquisition of motor vehicles is proposed,” said Ms. Gumia in Visayan. For the free transport service to students, the city government plans to buy 40 buses and has also allocated funds for fuel, drivers’ salary, and maintenance. Fund sources for the proposed budget are: P1.9 billion internal revenue allotment, P2.5 billion from other local taxes, P1 billion from real property tax, P1.3 billion for non-tax revenue, P1 billion share from joint venture, and P250 million share from the eco-zone. The proposal has been submitted to the city council for deliberation. — The Freeman
