The public’s net satisfaction with the Duterte administration dropped 12 points, slipping to a “very good” rating with a score of +58 in the first quarter of 2018 from the record-high of +70 in December 2017, the Social Weather Stations (SWS) said in its latest survey.
The quarterly survey found 69% of adult Filipinos remained satisfied with the general performance of the present administration while 11% are dissatisfied and 18% are neither.
The 12-point decrease was attributed to the net satisfaction decline in Balance Luzon, Mindanao and Metro Manila, combined with a steady score in Visayas.
The National Administration scored the highest in Mindanao with +72, down 15 points from +87 in December 2017, but remained “excellent.” Similarly, in Balance Luzon, it recorded a +50 rating, down by 17 points from +67 last quarter, but stayed “very good.”
The rating in Metro Manila fell one grade from “excellent” to “very good” as it lost 13 points from +17 in December 2017 to +58 in March 2018. While the score in Visayas was unchanged at +57, the same “very good” rating it recorded since September 2017.
Moreover, the government maintained a “very good” rating across socioeconomic classes ABC with a score of +56 in March 2018, but was down 6 points from +62 in the last quarter.
It also stayed “very good” in class E, despite losing 12 points from +66 in December 2017. The rating, however, fell one grade in Class D, or the masa segment, from +71 (excellent) to +58 (very good) in March 2018.
The government rating among college students, meanwhile, maintained its “excellent” grade, hardly moving from +74 in December 2017 to +72 in March 2018.
The non-commissioned quarterly poll was conducted from March 23 to 27, 2018, through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 respondents aged 18 and above. The SWS survey gauged the satisfaction of the public on the general performance of the National Administration as well as on some specific subjects.
For one, the survey found the government satisfaction rating on Helping victims of disasters was up by 33 points to the new record-high +75 (excellent) from the recorded +42 (good) in March 2017. It was noted the score surpassed the +73 score recorded in August 2012.
In addition, it rose by one grade on Protecting human rights, up by 9 points from +45 (good) in December 2017 to +54 (very good).
The public satisfaction rating on Protecting human rights also rose by one grade from +45 (good) in December 2017 to +54 (very good) in March 2018. But, it fell one grade on Fighting Inflation, losing 18 points from +24 (moderate) in December 2017 to +6 (neutral) in March 2018.
