Representative Benitez calls for return to P2-B sugar sector development budget
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL 3rd District Representative Alfredo B. Benitez is now lobbying for the restoration of the sugarcane industry development budget to P2 billion this year, which was reduced by the Department of Budget and Management to P1 billion this year due to underspending by the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA). The P2-billion budget is specified under Republic Act 10659 or the Sugar Cane Industry Development Act. Mr. Benitez has defended the SRA, saying the agency’s capacity to fast-track spending and the implementation of projects has been hampered by the bureaucratic process in fund allocation. — The Freeman
