PRESIDENT RODRIGO R. Duterte has appointed Social Welfare Development Assistant Secretary Lorraine Marie T. Badoy as Undersecretary for New Media and Spokesperson of the Presidential Communications Office.

Mr. Duterte signed Ms. Badoy’s appointment letter on Oct. 19, Thursday.

“We welcome Undersecretary Lorraine Badoy to the Presidential Communications Operations Office family,” Communications Secretary Martin M. Andanar said in a statement.

“We look forward to working together as we bring the government closer to the people by keeping them informed of the progress this administration is making towards changing the country for the better,” he added.

On Feb. 13, Ms. Badoy was appointed Assistant Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

A leading supporter of Mr. Duterte, Ms. Badoy has been outspoken in her criticisms, even telling the European Union, which has been critical of the government’s drug war, to just engage in child pornography.

“We have seen Dr. Badoy’s passion for serving our people in her work at the DSWD,” Mr. Andanar said.

“We are confident that the same zeal and enthusiasm that animated her in caring for the less privileged will enable us to more effectively reach out to more people through new media,” he added. — Rosemarie A. Zamora
