THE PHILIPPINES Football League holds a double-header today featuring Kaya FC-Iloilo against Mendiola FC 1991 on one end and Stallion Laguna FC versus Green Archers United FC on the other.

Undefeated league-leader Kaya (3-0-0) stakes its unbeaten record against Mendiola (0-1-2) in their 4 p.m. match at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

Kaya is fresh from its 1-0 victory over Global Cebu FC on Saturday where Alfred Osei provided the winning goal.

The win gave Kaya the full three points that put it ahead in the leader board with nine points after three matches.

“From a short turnaround of games, it’s expected that we will be resting some of the players, but still we will be having a balanced and competitive lineup against Mendiola,” said Iloilo head coach Noel Marcaida heading into today’s game.

“The main problem in the last match against Global was the finishing, so we put emphasis on that going into this game,” he added.

Looking to deal Kaya its first defeat is league newcomer Mendiola, which is coming off a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Stallion also at the weekend.

A club that traces its roots from San Beda’s rich football history, Mendiola admittedly is still in the process of finding its groove in the PFL but it is not stopping it from giving its all and competing.

It only has a point to show for so far in the tournament coming from a draw with fellow PFL newbie Philippine Air Force FC.

Playing in the 7 p.m. match, meanwhile, are Stallion and Green Archers United FC.

Currently in third and fourth place, respectively, Stallion (2-1-1, seven points) and GAU (2-0-1, six points) go for the victory that would help fan their push to the top of the standings.

Stallion was a 6-1 winner over Mendiola previously while GAU was a 5-1 victor also over Mendiola on June 2.

Both games today will be streamed live at PFLTV.ph. — Michael Angelo S. Murillo
