The Japanese Contemporary Art Show 2016, featuring artists exhibited by YOD Osaka and Kogure Tokyo, will be held from Aug. 11 to 14 at 5th Ave. cor. 30th St., Bonifacio High Street Central, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. Tin-Aw Gallery opens 8 Questions, a group show featuring recent graduates from the UP College of Fine Arts’ Studio Arts program on Aug. 13, 6 p.m. The exhibit features works of Carmela Dagdag, Maisha Dela Cruz, Gale Encarnacion, Carzen Esprela, Donna Go, Venus Mar, Nicole Tee, and Aileen Viñas. It will run until Aug. 31.

Detour by Jonathan Ching and Elaine Roberto-Navas is on view at Blanc Gallery on Aug. 13 to Sept. 3.

The Vargas Museum in UP Diliman presents School of Sansó, the fifth of the seven retrospective exhibits in 2016 in honor of the life and works of Juvenal Sansó. The museum is also showing works by Jon Cuyson in Dancing the Shrimp (The Tactical Improvisation of Postcolonial Space Mix) until Sept. 15.

Vinyl On Vinyl has three ongoing exhibits: Brown Dada by Manuel Ocampo, Argie Bandoy, Bjorn Calleja, Jigger Cruz, Don Dalmacio, Neil Dela Cruz, Beejay Esber, Edric Go, Jayson Oliveria, Joel Quinones; Kamundo by Blic; and Pleated Reveries by Reynold dela Cruz.

Galeria Duemila presents They Speak To You By Association, an exhibit featuring artists Felix Bacolor, Mariano Ching, RM de Leon, Jonathan Olazo, Yasmin Sison, and Trek Valdizno. The exhibit runs until Aug. 29. Galeria Duemila is located at 201 Loring Street, 1300 Pasay City.

Polarities by Lindslee and Donna Sy is on view at the Lobby Lounge Luxe until Aug. 15. Lobby Lounge Luxe is located at the Makati Shangri-La, Ayala Ave., Makati.

1335Mabini has two ongoing exhibits: Venture Capital by Poklong Anading, Carlos Celdran, Tad Ermitano, Miggy Inumerable, Martin Krenn, Manny Montelibano, and Mark Salvatus; and Human Nature by Mark Andy Garcia. Both run until Sept. 9.

Works of Japan’s leading contemporary printmaker, from the collection of Steven Co, are showcased in the exhibit titled The Diary of Tetsuya Noda: Steven Co Collection on view at the Ayala Museum until Aug. 28. 

The Cultural Center of the Philippines presents a solo exhibit of sculptures by Ryan Rubio titled Instinctual Creation which is ongoing until Sept. 11 at the Bulwagang Fernando Amorsolo (small gallery). Also ongoing is the photo exhibit Myth by artists Jippy Pascua and Dennese Victoria, which is on view until Aug. 21 at the Pasilyo Victorio Edades.

Ana Verayo’s second solo exhibition titled Badlands is on view at Light and Space Contemporary, West Fairview, Quezon City until Oct. 1.

The Metropolitan Museum and the Japan Foundation present Japanese Design Today 100 and Discourses in Design: Philippine-Japanese Cultural Linkages which runs until Aug. 19. Meanwhile, Raymundo “Ray” Albano’s career is the subject of A Time to Unlearn, at the Sphere section of the Met’s permanent exhibit Philippine Contemporary Art: To Scale the Past and the Possible. The Metropolitan Museum is located at the Bangko Sentral Compound, Roxas Blvd., Malate, Manila.

A retrospective art exhibit focusing on painter and sculptor Allan Cosio titled Three Periods of Art-Making is on view until Aug. 19 at the Alliance Total Gallery, Alliance Française de Manille, 209 Nicanor Garcia St., Bel-Air II, Makati City.

Art Informal has three ongoing exhibitions until Sept. 3: JC Jacinto’s When All Grounds Are Sacred, Alvin Zafra and Vic Balanon’s Fata Morgana, and Veronica Pee’s There is Water Where the Sun Never Shines. Art Informal is located at 277 Connecticut St., Greenhills East, Mandaluyong City.

KALSADA, Max Balatbat’s mixed media works, is on view at the BenCab Museum until Aug. 14. Alongside this is the Philippine Life, an exhibit of hand-colored engravings from the London Illustrated News of 1857. BenCab Museum is located at Km. 6 Asin Road, Tuba, Metro Baguio.

Vinyl On Vinyl has three exhibit: Darrel Ballesteros’ second solo exhibit, You Will Destroy This Planet; Teo Esguerra’s Beach Houses, and Barong Tagalog’s Buhay Na Walang Hanggan which features artists Tano Panaligan, Ren Quinio, Miki Miki Mulingtapang, Mhelen Hassim, CURSE/GIFT, Regen Mulingtapang, Migs Deniola, Darwin Peña, QWARK, Dionisio Sandoval, Jr. The exhibits are on view at 2135 Warehouse II, Chino Roces Ave., Makati City. Cinemalaya’s celebrates its 12th year with “Break the Surface” on Aug. 5-14 at the CCP Theaters in Pasay City, and Ayala Cinemas.  Regular tickets are P150, while student tickets are P100. The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design’s monthly film showing continues with two movies that focus on individuals who overcame challenges beyond all odds. Sidney Lumet’s 12 Angry Men will be screened on Aug. 12, 17 and 19 at the School of Design and Arts Cinema. Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner will be shown on Aug. 24 and 31, and at SDA A907 on Aug. 26.
