PAYMAYA Philippines, Inc. has recently forged a partnership with South Emerald Supermarket in order to encourage more Filipinos to go cashless when grocery shopping.
The mobile wallet arm of PLDT, Inc. said in a statement that it launched last month its “Ronda Tinda” in Baliwag, Bulacan, where roving vans carrying grocery items travel to remote areas and allow customers to pay through PayMaya.
“Ronda Tinda” is a concrete demonstration of bringing the cashless experience through PayMaya’s innovative digital financial services down to the grassroots level. This groundbreaking initiative can go a long way in letting residents in far-flung areas benefit from what this emerging new economy has to offer,” PayMaya Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director Paolo Azzola said in a statement.
Aside from payments through the PayMaya QR code, the roving grocery vans also accept card payments through One by PayMaya Business devices.
Some of the grocery items sold through the vans are offered at a discounted rate, especially in areas that are not covered by South Emerald Supermarket.
“We’re grateful to embark on another partnership with PayMaya…. It’s truly rewarding to help local communities access quality goods at a fair price and give them a convenient way to pay,” South Emerald CEO Hon. Beth Sio was quoted as saying.
After launching in Baliwag, PayMaya said it wants to take the roving grocery vans to Malolos and Bocaue, and eventually to Metro Manila and other provinces such as Aklan and Iloilo.
