The Curse of La Llorona
SET in Los Angeles, California in the 1970s, the film follows a social worker and her young children who are drawn into terrifying supernatural events after ignoring eerie warnings of a troubled mother who is suspected of child endangerment. Directed by Michael Chaves, the movie stars Linda Cardellini, Raymond Cruz, and Marisol Ramirez. The LA Times’ Kate Walsh writes, “The Curse of La Llorona is a combination ghost story and haunted house horror flick sprinkled with folksy mythology and shamanic rituals. It relies heavily on jump scares rather than anything existentially terrifying, and there are some leaps in magical logic that don’t quite make sense,” Rotten Tomatoes, the film review aggregate site, gives it a score of 30%.
