Benefit concert
THE Center for Possibilities Foundation, an NGO dedicated to addressing the plight of indigent children with special needs, will be staging a concert at Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium of the RCBC Plaza, Ayala Ave., Makati City on March 2, 6 p.m. titled Love Inclusively, to be preceded by the opening of the Art Exceptional exhibit. The concert will feature the Manila Symphony Orchestra, with singer Ogie Alcasid as the featured guest. Three individuals with special needs will be performing alongside the orchestra and their works will be the attraction of the exhibit. The concert is aimed at raising funds for the foundation’s special education center in Sagada, Mountain Province, and its soon to be opened center in Norzagaray, Bulacan. Donations will be accepted at the entrance.
Folkloric dance fest
INTERNATIONAL and local folk dance groups and artists gather at the Cultural Center of the Philippines for the Indak Pilipinas 2019 Folkloric Dance Festival which is ongoing until March 3. Now on its second year, is a showcase of the best folkloric groups and their best dance pieces choreographed and staged by Philippine National Artists for Dance and other respected personalities in the dance world. The Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company, the Centro Escolar University Folk Dance Troupe, Kaloob Philippine Music & Dance Ministry, LIKHA-Pilipino Folk Ensemble, the University of the East Silanganan Dance Troupe, and the University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe will perform on March 1, 8 p.m. The Bulacan State University Lahing Kayumanggi Dance Troupe, Kahayag Dance Company Philippines, the Philippine Normal University Kislap Sining Dance Troupe, the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, Sindaw Philippines Performing Arts Guild, the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Cultural Dance Troupe, and the University of the Philippines Filipinia Dance Group will take center stage on March 2, 4 p.m. The festival will culminate on March 3, with performances from the Kaloob Philippine Music and Dance Ministry, Koronadal Hinugyaw Cultural Dance Troupe, LIKHA-Pilipino Folk Ensemble, the Philippine Barangay Folk Dance Troupe, the Rizal Technological University Teatro Rizalia Kultura Dance Troupe, the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Cultural Dance Troupe, and the Zamboanga Del Sur National High School Melengas Dance Ensemble.
Dirty Old Musical take three
DIRTY Old Musical (DOM), about a 1980s one-hit wonder band that reunites more than 30 years later to raise funds for an ailing member, is back for a third run with a cast member and new songs. It opens today and runs until March 23 at the Music Museum, Greenhills Shopping Center, San Juan. This iteration stars The Dawn frontman Jett Pangan, Robert Seña, Nonie Buencamino, Bo Cerrudo, and Carlo Orosa. The Phantom of the Opera
ANDREW Lloyd Webber’s musical The Phantom of the Opera has performances at the Theater at Solaire until March 10. Based on Gaston Leroux’s novel of the same title, the story is set in the Paris Opera House where a young soprano becomes the object of The Phantom’s affection and he manipulates her career at the expense of the opera house staff and stars. Rep’s Miong
TWENTY years after its first staging, Repertory Philippines presents Miong, a musical on Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo which spans his birth in 1869, to the declaration of independence on June 12, 1898.
