Who knows where inspiration comes from? The Ancient Greeks ascribed all of literature, science, and art to the Muses, of whom there were three, seven or nine, depending on the source. Herodotus named the nine books in his Histories after the nine virgin goddesses: Clio (history), Euterpe ( flutes and lyric poetry), Thalia (comedy and pastoral poetry), Melpomene (tragedy), Terpsichore (dance), Erato (love poetry), Polymnia (sacred poetry), Urania (astronomy), and Calliope (epic poetry). Here, Rafaela channels a number of the Muses while dressed in designs that spring from myriad inspirations, including the human skeleton and jellyfish swimming in the sea.
