ALMOST 80,000 teachers and school heads have been promoted since August 2025, under the Expanded Career Progression (ECP) system, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. said on Monday.

“Since August 2025 up to now, nearly 80,000 teachers — 79,230 teachers and school heads nationwide — have been promoted under the ECP system,” he said in Filipino during the mass oathtaking of over 8,000 newly promoted teachers and school heads in Roxas City, Capiz.

He vowed to continue pushing to overhaul teacher career mobility and benefits, pledging further promotions and expanded support as part of a broader effort to lift education outcomes and workforce retention.

The ECP addresses longstanding bottlenecks that left some teachers waiting years, sometimes decades, for advancement.

Mr. Marcos said additional promotions are in the pipeline, underscoring a policy commitment that “no teacher will retire at entry-level rank.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Marcos also led the launch of the expanded nationwide rice aid program in Western Visayas as the government works to cushion households from rising food and fuel costs driven by the Middle East war.

He led the distribution of rice to farmers and vulnerable groups in Roxas City, part of a program that directs local government units to maximize their Local Government Support Fund allocations.

The initiative, which began in Manila, is scheduled to be conducted six times this year, according to the Palace.

At least 500 beneficiaries received 10 kilograms of rice each during the event, including 300 farmers from organized groups across several villages and 200 recipients from vulnerable sectors such as persons with disabilities and solo parents. — Chloe Mari A. Hufana
