Filipino business icon Washington SyCip dies at 96
Philippine business icon and philanthropist Washington Z. SyCip passed away on Saturday night, several people close to his family confirmed. He was 96.
Mr. SyCip turned a one-man organization in 1946 into SyCip, Gorres, Velayo & Co. (SGV), the country’s biggest professional services provider and now a unit of London-based accounting giant Ernst & Young.
He was also the founder of the Asian Institute of Management in 1969.
In a Facebook post, SGV also confirmed the passing of its founder.
“Mr. SyCip went quietly while on a flight to Vancouver from Manila. He was 96 years old. The SyCip family requests for some private time at this moment. Information on memorial services to follow. Please pray for the eternal repose of his soul,” SGV said. — Krista Montealegre
