PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. on Monday announced the upcoming groundbreaking of a Philippine General Hospital (PGH) branch in Carmona, Cavite, this month.

“We will be opening a PGH branch… with 200 beds. We will do the groundbreaking this May for the PGH in Carmona,” he said in mixed English and Filipino during the “Bawat Barangay Makikinabang” event in General Trias, Cavite.

In the same event, he said the government is piloting a revamped Local Government Support Fund and a new Socio-Civic Program Fund.

The twin programs will anchor a more delegated model of social assistance, tying funding to food aid distribution and education support at the village level, he said.

He underscored the Socio-Civic Program Fund’s focus on workforce readiness, urging scholars to treat education as a “lasting asset” that cannot be taken away and as preparation to eventually take on leadership roles.

The village-level program allocates P200,000 per village, with half of the amount funding five Presidential Scholars who will each receive P20,000 in education assistance.

The President said the program could produce more than 200,000 scholars nationwide across roughly 42,000 villages, framing the initiative as a long-term investment in human capital and leadership development. — Chloe Mari A. Hufana
