CEBU VICE-GOVERNOR Agnes A. Magpale, who is running for governor in the 2019 elections, has filed a disqualification case against her opponent, 3rd District Representative Gwendolyn F. Garcia. Ms. Magpale said the petition was filed at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) central office in Manila and that she is confident it will hold water. She did not disclose the grounds of the disqualification. Another petition was filed earlier by lawyer Edgar Gica, citing that Ms. Garcia lied in her Certificate of Candidacy when she said she has not been the subject of a court ruling that finds her guilty and bars her from holding public office. The case stems from the backfilling of the controversial Balili property in Naga City when Ms. Garcia was governor. Ms. Garcia, on the other hand, asserted that the Ombudsman ruling against her is not yet final and executory as her appeal is still pending before the Court of Appeals. — The Freeman
