DAVAO CITY Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is expected to sign this month a new ordinance providing incentives to parking space investors, according to Lemuel G. Ortonio, Davao City Investment Promotion Center head. Mr. Ortonio said they have already started enticing owners of vacant properties that could potentially be used as carparks, as part of the local government’s program to minimize road obstructions and ease traffic flow. “Private investors will be duly provided with incentives through the specialized incentives package for special projects,” said Mr. Ortonio. Based on the proposal approved by the city council last January, the incentives would include exemption from real property tax payment for two years and business tax for five years. At the same time, the city government is looking at partnering with private companies for towing operations against illegally parked vehicles. — Carmelito Q. Francisco
