A MAGNITUDE 4.6 tremor shook the island of Samar yesterday, March 5, at 9:05 a.m., with epicenter around the town of Llorente in Eastern Samar province. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in its bulletin that intensity 4 were felt in Llorente and Hernani; intensity 3 in Balanginga, Lawaan, Salcedo and Borongan City; intensity II in Tacloban City and Palo, Leyte as well as Dolores and Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Intensity 3 were felt in Palo, Leyte; Borongan City, Eastern Samar; and Catbalogan City, Samar. No aftershocks were expected, according to Phivolcs, and no damages were immediately reported. Samar, the third- largest island in the Philippines after Luzon and Mindanao, is divided into the three provinces of Samar, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar.
