Coffee-growing Tuburan town positions to be agri-tourism destination
THE DEPARTMENT of Tourism-Central Visayas (DoT-7) will highlight the coffee farms in Tuburan in the northeastern part of Cebu province as part of its farm tourism campaign. DoT-7 Regional Director Joshur Judd Lanete II said the Tuburan coffee farm will serve as a pilot project. In an earlier interview, Tuburan Mayor Democrito “Aljun” M. Diamante said that aside from preparations for the construction of cottages at the farm and improving accommodation facilities in town, his office is also coordinating with the DoT and Department of Public Works and Highways to fix the road going to the coffee farm. Managed by Kafamco (Kabankalan Agro Forestry Farmers Association Multipurpose Cooperative ), the farm aims to give livelihood to over a thousand farmers and maximize the eco-tourism potential of Tuburan. The farm has a capacity to produce 4.3 million kilos of beans a year. — The Freeman
