TROPICAL STORM Quiel (international name: Nakri) is hovering over the western side of Luzon, and is expected to maintain its almost stationary condition until Thursday morning, weather bureau PAGASA said in its Nov. 6 update. The storm, alongside the tail-end of a cold front will bring light to moderate with occasional heavy rains over provinces on the north-western side of Luzon, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Antique, Aklan, and Iloilo. As of Wednesday morning, the center of Quiel was located at 465 kilometers west-southwest of Subic, Zambales. PAGASA forecasts Quiel to intensify into a severe tropical storm but “remains less likely to make landfall in any part of the country.” It is expected to exit the Philippine area by Saturday morning. Meanwhile, tropical cyclone Halong, located almost 3,000 kilometers east of northern Luzon as of Wednesday, is moving northward and is not expected to enter the Philippine area.
