Poland begins logging primeval forest despite activist pleas

WARSAW, POLAND — Poland on Tuesday began a logging project aimed at protecting the Bialowieza forest, which includes some of Europe’s last primeval woodland, despite protests from environmental groups, scientists and the EU.
