GMA NEWS and Public Affairs becomes a part of the “future of online news” as it launched Stand for Truth, a weeknight online newscast “produced and reported by the young, for the young,” according to a company press release.

The show, which started airing starting yesterday at 8 p.m., is anchored by journalist Alfonso Tomas “Atom” Araullo, political analyst Richard Heydarian, and host Joyce Pring. They will be joined by 10 reporters from around the country chosen to undergo training and workshops by “some of the country’s most awarded and highly esteemed broadcast journalists” of GMA.

The 10 reporters were handpicked from those who sent in sample mobile video reports using the network’s YouScoop facility, which encourages community-based reporting.

They are: Bhea Jeem Docyogen, a radio disc jockey from Baguio; Anthony Esguerra, a multimedia reporter and fellow of New Media and Journalism at Ball State University, Indiana, USA; Asmarie Labao, a former forester and Department of Environment and Natural Resources information officer from Marawi; Shai Lagarde, a former TV producer and currently a lifestyle vlogger; Ardo Miravalles, a certified public accountant who has an interest in the media and entertainment industry; Darwin Quirino, a communications officer for the Department of Foreign Affairs Office of Middle East and African Affairs; Manal Sugadol, a licensed English teacher and a former administrative assistant from Cotabato; Larize Lee, a GMA Artist Center’s Public Relations executive; Eduard Faraon, a senior high school campus journalist; and Jerald Uy, a former TV reporter, road safety advocate, and vlogger.

“This will revolutionize the way news is presented and, at the same time, will change the way the audience consume news and information,” Mr. Araullo said during a press conference on April 5 at the GMA Network offices in Quezon City.

Each episode will be about 15 minutes long and will include reporting on the day’s news alongside an “on-the-spot analysis of the biggest news of the day” courtesy of Mr. Heydarian where he will “present a data-driven segment showing the numbers involved in an issue, the history and the policies behind it,” said the release.

Ms. Pring meanwhile will headline the music segment where she will interview “some of today’s biggest bands and musicians in the country.”
