Extreme sports show returns for season two
ADRENALINE-PUMPING action once again is brought to the fore when Season 2 of the American sports competition series Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge premieres tomorrow on cable channel RTL CBS Extreme.
Inspired by the Spartan Race, arguably the most brutal race there is in the planet, the series will see competing teams test their determination, endurance, and will to the limit as they work as a team through a demanding obstacle course for the right to bag the $250,000 top prize.
In each episode, six teams of four athletes will compete alongside the support of a team captain.
The competitors will make their way through challenging and energy-zapping climbs and crawls built around various elements like water and mud. The top three teams in each episode advance to the next round.
For practitioners of the Spartan Race, the show is a good entry point for those who want to pick it up as an activity to stay healthy as they get to see the dynamic that goes with every race.
“Spartan Race is 50% physical and 50% mental – physical training is going to get you there, but it’s designed to test you mentally,” said Michael Reyes, director of Spartan Race Philippines, during the media launch of the Spartan TV series early this week at Fitness First at The Block in SM North EDSA.
He went on to say that Spartan provides the kind of motivation that one would need if ever he or she decides to join races.
“As seen in the series, we are not creating something impossible. We’re doing something that anyone can do. It will be hard, but know that you can do it,” said Mr. Reyes, whose group is staging the first-ever Reebok Spartan Race in the country on Sept. 16 at the Timberland grounds in San Mateo, Rizal.
Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge is produced by the same team that brought the very popular American Ninja Warrior series and is hosted by US Winter Olympian Apolo Ohno and ESPN radio personality Kelvin Washington.
It will premiere tomorrow over RTL CBS Extreme at 9:45 p.m.
