Ceres-Negros moves to first place in leader board after huge win vs Global
DEFENDING Philippines Football League (PFL) champion Ceres-Negros FC is back in familiar territory of leader in the standings after a huge on 8-0 victory over Global Cebu City on Saturday league fixture at the Philippine Football Federation Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
Was at second place with four points off a 1-1-0 record entering the contest, Ceres catapulted itself to the driver’s seat with the full three points it got from its win over Global, overtaking early leader and Kaya FC-Iloilo (2-0-0).
Bienvenido Maranon once again starred for Ceres, finishing with four goals (9’, 13’, 33’ and 81’) in the win, which was in follow-up to their 5-0 victory previously over Philippine Air Force FC.
Mahir Karic (79’ and 85’) had a brace while Mike Ott (45’) and Jeffrey Christiaens (87’) had a goal each for Ceres.
Ceres takes a break from domestic action as it prepares for its AFC Cup ASEAN semifinals assignment and will resume its PFL campaign on June 28.
Global (0-0-2), meanwhile, dropped to its second loss in as many games.
STALLION FINALLY WINS
In the other fixture on Saturday, Stallion Laguna FC (1-1-1) finally barged into the win column after finishing with a draw and a loss in its first two matches in the ongoing season of the PFL.
Stallion defeated Air Force, 3-0, on the back of the brace of Warren Bedia (4’ and 34’) and Nathaniel Alquiros (75’) at the Biñan Football Stadium.
