THE STRONG year for Margarita “Meggie” Ochoa continued after she made history early Sunday morning (Manila time) by chalking a gold medal at the JuJutsu World Championships in Sweden.
Fought in the women’s seniors 49kg category, Ms. Ochoa, 28, defeated Ni Ni Vicky Hoang of Canada, 2-0, in the final.
The gold was a culmination of what was an impressive bid for the Ateneo product, who also saw her outclassing Morgane Houx of France, Anna Augustyn of Poland and Laetitia Boes of France along the way.
Ms. Ochoa’s gold was historic as she became the first Filipino JJIF world champion and first Asian to win the top prize in the worlds.
