Early in 2021, recovery outlooks have emerged, painting a good start for bouncing back from the coronavirus pandemic. While such recovery has started surfacing, however, more recent developments have slowed it down and even made it “gloomy and more uncertain,” as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) stated in its most recent World Economic Outlook update back in July. From the earlier 3.6%, IMF reduced its projection of global real gross domestic product (GDP) growth to 3.2% in 2022; and also from 3.6%, the fund slashed its growth forecast for 2023 to 2.9%.

In light of this projected slowdown, emerging and developing economies will need to carefully calibrate fiscal and monetary policies, undertake reforms and seize the best opportunities to:
