THIS BRILLANTE Mendoza film follows three residents of Tacloban who try to put their lives back together in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan [Yolanda]. The film stars Nora Aunor, Julio Diaz, and Lou Veloso. “It’s the overall controlled performances from the cast… which propels the film. The subdued behavior in the film’s first two-thirds only help in heightening the drama in the final act, when tempers fray and characters implode as more bad news puncture their steel-willed veneer,” writes The Hollywood Reporter’s Clarence Tsui.

THIS ACTION FILM is set in Japanese-occupied Korea, where the local resistance plans to assassinate a Japanese commander — but first they have to spring the hitman from jail. Directed by Choi Dong-hoon, it stars Jun Ji-hyun, Lee Jung-jae, and Ha Jung-woo. “A sensationally entertaining mash-up of historical drama, Dirty Dozen style shoot-’em-up, spaghetti Western-flavored flamboyance, and extended action set pieces that suggest a dream-team collaboration of Sergio Leone, John Woo and Steven Spielberg,” writes Joe Leydon of Variety.
