FOR THE second time, health and beauty retailer Watsons Philippines is running its Big White Blowout promotion featuring sales and deals for most of the whitening brands it carries.
“[It’s because] people would like to look more radiant after the holidays,” Kim Reyes, group category manager for skin care at Watsons Philippines, told reporters during the launch on Jan. 10.
The promotion, which runs until Feb. 22, started in January, riding on the back of people in the “new year, new me” mentality.
And according to Ms. Reyes, the timing is perfect for the company as the previous campaign, which also ran in the same period (January to February) posted 30% increase in sales in the category and they are optimistic that they can reach the same for this year.
“What we wanted to do was to make these products readily available to them by coming up with a wide range of promotions and offers that will make it easier for them to buy the products that they don’t usually get to buy,” said Karen Fabres, group marketing manager, during the same launch.
She added that what they noticed is that their customers are now leaning towards “more holistic” whitening as apart from topical products like lotions and whitening soaps, customers are now considering ingestives (glutathione/methathione capsules and other beauty supplements).
“Ingestives is a growing category. Our shoppers are becoming more open now to trying these products because… there are many testimonials not only from celebrities but from actual users of the products,” said Ms. Reyes.
Watsons Philippines still pegs the whitening category as its biggest seller, contributing 60% of the sales in the store’s beauty department.
Ms. Reyes also noted that the first two months of the year are perfect for the whitening segment as Filipinas tend to whiten up before summer rolls in.
