IWC starts its own racing team
IWC Schaffhausen launched at the 76th Goodwood Members’ Meeting the IWC Racing Team, making the brand the first watchmaker to compete in classic car races using its own team and car.
To mark the occasion, on which former Formula One driver David Coulthhard competed aboard a Mercedes-Benz SL 300 “Gullwing,” in the Salvadori Cup, IWC introduced a new member of its Ingenieur family — the Chronograph Sport Edition “76th Members’ Meeting at Goodwood” (Ref. IW381201).
As an Ingenieur — French for “engineer” — the Chronograph Sport Edition features protection against magnetic fields. Linking it to motor sports is its brake disc-inspired, 44-millimeter titanium case. Its column wheel chronograph is powered by an in-house 69380 caliber that has a pawl-winding system and a 46-hour power reserve. The watch is limited to 176 numbered pieces.
Aston Martin, TAG Heuer to create watches together
ONE of the latest links between motor racing and timekeeping is the partnership between Aston Martin and TAG Heuer. Announced in early March, the deal sees the brands “utilize motor sports as an extreme test bed for their performance products.”
As part of the partnership, the two brands said they would develop a collection of watches meant for various racing championships. The watches may be specific to Aston Martin, or to the Aston Martin Racing division. TAG Heuer will sell the watches through its global distribution network and at Aston Martin centers in London and Tokyo.
